Updates Regarding COVID-19

3/13/2020

According to the Department of Health and Department of Education, the following mandate was issued this morning regarding students/faculty and travel:

-Those who travel to any foreign country must enter a 14-day self-isolation upon return.
-Those who travel by cruise to any location must enter a 14-day self-isolation upon return.
-No mass gatherings (1,000-25,000 people) should occur.
-If a student/faculty/staff has been exposed to a person with confirmed COVID-19, the departments still recommend that the school/college/program remain open but with appropriate sanitation measures.

Parents,

We have been monitoring all recommendations from the Florida DOE, DOH, and Santa Rosa County Schools regarding Coronavirus concerns.  Although we rest in the knowledge that God will take care of us, we also know that we should use the discernment He gives us in making the best decisions for the health and safety of our students and staff. According to the most recent update, here are the major points we want to emphasize as we head into spring break:

  1. The most important preventative action that you can take is to practice proper hygiene:

    1. Stay home if you are sick.

    2. Wash your hands often and thoroughly with soap and water for about 20 seconds.

    3. Carry and use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

    4. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose with unwashed hands.

    5. Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.

  2. The district has instructed common-sense precautions for school travel and school-sponsored events:

    1. School trips involving flights or cruises are cancelled (not applicable to us at SRCS).

    2. Trips to amusement parks or other venues may continue but with conscientious hygiene measures.

    3. Athletic events will continue as scheduled, but no “high-five lines” or arm-locking prayer circles will occur.

  3. The CDC and Santa Rosa County School District have also released the following precautions for personal or family travel:

    1. If you choose to go out of the country to a high-risk country listed on the CDC website, a 14-day self-quarantine and social distancing will be required before your return to school. This quarantine also requires your agreement not to go out in public and to avoid close personal interactions.

    2. If you are planning a cruise, the CDC highly recommends that you consider deferring the cruise. Please understand your risk of being quarantined upon re-entry.

  4. Several sources have been provided for current and breaking information related to the COVID-19 Coronavirus:

    1. Flu Illness Prevention Guide: santarosa.k.12.fl.us

    2. Travel Advisories: cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html

    3. Florida Department of Health Question Hotline: call 866-779-6121 or email covid-19@flhealth.gov

We know that spring break is next week, and we encourage our families to be careful with any travel plans. Please understand that travel out of the country may require your quarantine upon return (depending on the risk level), and these decisions are out of our control as we seek to follow the recommendations of the CDC and the local school district.

Let us continue to pray for God to protect and guide us in His wisdom. We trust you will enjoy your spring break while being conscientious about hygiene and this health concern.
