GENERAL MUSIC

Building Musical Foundations

In addition to our elementary students' rigorous academic curriculum, music is an important part of each student's education from K4 through 5th grade. Our teachers follow a Kodály-based curriculum that values sound before sight, helping students build strong listening skills, musical expression, and lifelong musicianship.

Students learn to hear, sing, read, improvise, and perform rhythmic and melodic patterns while exploring folk music from around the world and studying great composers throughout history. They also gain hands-on experience with a variety of classroom instruments, including unpitched percussion, xylophones, handbells, recorders, and ukuleles.

Each year, our 5th graders are invited to join public schools from the Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties to the 5th grade Pensacola Symphony Orchestra each year. Pensacola Symphony Orchestra presents a concert to all 5th grade students and performs a variety of music composed in America while giving lessons about each composer while exposing our young musicians to the wide world of music. Our Elementary students have the opportunity to perform at our Elementary Christmas Program. Several select elementary students are invited to join our upper choirs in their  Choral Concert in the Spring.
